James Johnston is a founder member of long standing London group Gallon Drunk, and a former member of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. Most recently he has been recording and touring with PJ Harvey with the album The Hope Six Demolition Project and on music for the play The Nest, which premiered at The Young Vic in London in 2016. He has also previously collaborated with groups such as Faust, Barry Adamson and Lydia Lunch. His first solo album was released in 2016. James turned to painting 2017, working in hotel rooms while on tour with PJ Harvey, primarily as an exercise in breaking musical writer's block, and subsequently becoming a daily practice. 'Linear' marks the first exhibition of his painting.
